Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to 7th grade! I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself. My name is Samantha Casler and I am thrilled to be your teacher. I graduated from the University of Rhode Island in May of 2017 where I received my Bachelors degree in Secondary Education and History with a middle level endorsement. I am currently in the process of receiving my Masters degree in Special Education from Manhattanville College.
Over the course of the school year, I will create a structure-based safe and accepting classroom environment where each student feels welcomed. The primary focus of this environment will be on the academic, and communication skills students will build upon over the course of the year. In the classroom, students will be encouraged to build upon their critical thinking skills by asking deep, “why” questions. Students will also build upon their communication skills through various group and partner activities as well as group discussions. This year, students will also gain tools to help develop a sense of educational responsibility and accountability.
Lastly, I will be using Google Classroom as a primary way of assigning and collecting student work. This is a wonderful tool that enables students, teachers, and parents to streamline communication. Class notes, homework assignments, announcements and updates will all be shared in real time on google classroom. Additional information can also be found on this webpage. Please read the rules and expectations pages on this webpage so that you are familiar with what is expected. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me and we can discuss them. I truly believe that having an open line of communication between the school and the home environment is especially important in order to meet the goals outlined above.
If you ever have any comments, questions or concerns, I am available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment) each day before and until 4:00 p.m. (after school). To schedule a meeting, you may contact me via my email, [email protected] or my school extension 914-555-1234 ext. 987.
I hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer and I am looking forward to a great 2018-2019 school year.
Sincerely,
Samantha Casler
